Becoming a Singaporean citizen is one of the easiest ways to become a long-term resident of the country. After all, it’s no wonder that this small island country is home to so many global citizens. With a population of over 5.6 million, you are more than likely to come across someone who is a Singaporean, even if you don’t know them personally.

Citizenship applications are generally straightforward and easy to complete, as long as you have the necessary documents handy. If you plan on making your new citizenship your permanent home, then becoming a Singapore citizen is definitely something to consider! Read on for more info…

    What is Singapore Citizenship?

Singapore citizenship is the status of being an ‘entitled person’, which means that you have the right to live and work in Singapore, and can also potentially vote here. Singapore also recognizes dual citizenship, meaning you can have citizenship in multiple countries.

This is especially useful if you are looking to travel frequently, or if you have friends and family who are citizens of other countries. It’s important to note that being a Singaporean citizen does not guarantee permanent residency in the country. However, it does provide a great base to start a new life abroad.

How to Apply for Singapore Citizenship

There are two ways to apply for Singapore citizenship: through the National Registration System (NRS), or through the Supplementary Registration System (SRS). – The NRS – This is an automated process that takes less than a month to complete. You will first need to apply for a resident’s pass (RPP), which costs $20. After you have your RPP, you can apply for citizenship through the NRIC system.

NRIs are like credit cards, and they are your official identity document in Singapore. Every Singaporean is issued a unique number that is printed on their NRIC. This number is what you will use to apply for citizenship via the NRIC system. – SRS – For those who are interested in obtaining Singapore citizenship through the SRS, you will first need to apply for a Certificate of Registration (COR).

If you meet all the requirements for the SRS, you will be able to apply for citizenship via the SRS. After you have completed the SRS application, you will receive a citizenship certificate via post within 4-6 weeks.

    Required Documents for Singapore Citizenship

In order to apply for Singapore citizenship, you will need to provide original documents to the registrar of your choice. You must also present your NRIC or a credit card number with the same name as your NRIC when applying. Below are the documents you will need to bring with you to the registrar’s office:

Birth certificate or baptismal certificate – If you are applying for Singapore citizenship for the first time, you will also need to submit your birth certificate. It must be issued by the Singapore government.

Foreign passports – If you have any other foreign passports besides the one you will be applying for Singapore citizenship with, you will need to submit photocopies of the front pages of all passports.

Marriage certificate – If you are applying as an adult Singapore citizen, you will also need to submit a marriage certificate for your spouse.

Proof of income – If you are applying as an adult Singapore citizen who has income, you will need to provide evidence that shows that you have sufficient income to support your family in Singapore.

Proof of citizenship – If you are applying as a minor Singapore citizen, you will need to submit proof of citizenship. This can come in the form of a Singapore citizenship certificate, a Singapore passport, or a Singapore ID card.

NRIC or credit card – You will need to bring your NRIC or credit card with you to the registrar’s office.

Step 1: Visit the Registry of your Choice

After you have gathered all the required documents at home, you can now visit your chosen registry office. You will need to bring along your NRIC or credit card, as well as your original documents. Also, you will need to present your documents to the registrar at the office, who will then issue you with a temporary resident’s pass (TRP).

You will then need to visit the NRIC office again within 3 months for your permanent resident’s pass (PRP). This TRP will be temporary and you will need to give it back to the registrar after you have visited the office to apply for a PRP. After this, you will be able to use it to access government buildings without entry fees.

If you are applying for citizenship for the first time, you can apply for citizenship at the same time as you apply for the TRP. You will still need to present your birth certificate, foreign passports, marriage certificate, and proof of income.

Step 2: Fill in an Application Form

After you have visited the registry office and received your TRP and PRP, you will be able to apply for citizenship online. You will need to fill out an application form that can be either printed or filled out electronically. Once you have filled out your application, you will need to sign it before submitting it.

At the walk-in counter, you will need to fill out an application form and provide all your required documents. You will also need to sign your application form. After completing this step, you will then be issued a provisional certificate of citizenship.
