Data collected by the World Health Organization show that the coronavirus variant first reported in Britain has been confirmed in 75 countries and territories and is being verified in five others.
The WHO data as of Tuesday also show that the variant first reported in South Africa has been verified in 34 nations and territories. They include Japan, China, Australia, the United States and European countries. The variant was under verification in six countries and territories.
A third variant initially reported in Brazil has been confirmed in 10 countries and territories, including the US, Britain and Germany. The variant was detected in a group of travelers who flew into Tokyo’s Haneda Airport from Brazil last month.
